7000 vessels

TACCAU harbor

500+ MT per Day

Not only the biggest supply of fishes for surimi in the country, the fishing season in TACCAU harbor last for almost year-round except for TET holiday in January of Lunar calendar.

Aoki located only 20 minutes drive from TACCAU harbor, we have owned trucks to transport raw materials to Aoki everyday up to 100 Mt.

KIEN GIANG SEA FISHING

Kien Giang sea area 63,290 km², provide 500,000 MT of fish per year. Kien Giang province’s government has been improving its regulations to manage the growing fleet of fishing vessels locally. Come with the established fishing zone map in 2017 which clearly define the protected zones and allowed zone for fishing, is the mandatory registration of all ships, people, and equipment involve in fishing trips, checking and renewing fishing licenses systematically. These effort is necessary for the management, preservation and development of the fish resources of Kien Giang, while maintain safety and order offshore

MAJOR FISHING AREA 71

All marine waters of the Western Central Pacific bounded by a line commencing from a point on the southeast coast of Asian Mainland, the south boundary go through Malaysia, Indonesia, and North of Australia, while the north border encompassing Philippines. The main area for tropical surimi materials like Itoyori, Kintokidai, Guchi, Eso, etc. with abundant quantity and many of the materials stock is still listed under Least concern (LC) preservation status by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).

Threadfin Bream

The family Nemipteridae belongs to the Class Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) and the Order Perciformes. Live on mud or sand bottoms depths down to about 220 m. Most abundant in depths of 20 to 50 m. Feeds mainly on small shrimps, squid, small fishes and benthic animals.

Young fish generally occur in shallower water, between 18 and 33 m (Eggleston, 1973).Females predominate at small sizes and males at larger sizes, due to faster growth rates in males (Eggleston, 1973; Kao & Liu, 1979).

Maximum size is 35 cm SL, commonly 23 cm SL.

Distribution: Tropical and sub-tropical Indo-West Pacific.

Threadfin Bream make up 30 – 40% of Aoki raw materials and have medium to good quality, with the golden species possess the highest quality, high GS and very white meat. Aoki use threadfin bream sorted by species and sizes for various Grade of PURE ITOYORI or mixing with other fishes to create ITO MIX.

Red Bigeye

Family : Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) > Perciformes (Perch-likes) > Priacanthidae (Bigeyes or catalufas). Occurs in inshore and offshore reefs from less than 20 m to more than 400 m depths. Apparently forms aggregations in open bottom areas and is very abundant in the South China Sea and Andaman Sea. Also found under ledges or hovering next to coral heads during day (Ref 90102). This is an important commercial species and is also used in recreational fisheries (Liu et al. 2001).

Maximum size is 30 cm SL

Distribution: southern Japan to western Indonesia, the Arafura Sea and Australia.

Red bigeye is the second most collected of Aoki RM amount to 20 – 25% quantity. Red bigeye meat often possess very high gel hence suitable for high Grade ITO MIX. Due to its big head and thick skin, the meat yielding ratio is bad, so combining with other fishes with good yield is a good way to counter its weakness and keep price reasonable for buyers.

Lizard fish

Biology

Saurida tumbil, common name is greater lizardfish, belongs to the Class Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) and the Order Aulopiformes (Grinners). Found in tropical waters to depths between 10 and 60 m (Heemstra 1995, Riede 2004); it usually occurs between 20 and 60 m (FAO-FIGIS 2005). This species is found along muddy bottoms and trawling grounds on the continental shelf. It feeds on bony fishes, crustaceans, and squids (Sommer et al. 1996, Broad 2003, Hoese et al.2006, Tiews et al. 1972). Saurida tumbil is caught by trawl nets and is used for surimi and oke fish production (Rahimibashar et al. 2012).

Maximum size is 60 cm SL

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific, further east to southeast Asia and Australia

Greater Lizardfish is a growing demand for Aoki production. This fish to make PURE ESO surimi with good whiteness and have particular use for customer. In good season Aoki can collect good material with big size up to 50 cm

Mix Fishes

Apart from the above three main fish species for surimi, Aoki use a diversity of fish about 20% of total quantity, mixing together for  ITO MIX of various Grade, but more for lower Grade surimi due to lower gel compared to threadfin bream and red bigeye. The three dominant species of Mix fishes in Aoki are :

Silver Croaker (Pennahia argentata)

Inhabit coastal waters in sandy, muddy bottoms (Ref. 75716).

Feed on small fishes and invertebrates (Ref. 2113).

Maximum size is 40 cm SL, common length 20 cm TL
Distribution: Northwest Pacific

Goatfish (Upeneus moluccensis)
Found in coastal waters with a muddy substrate.

Forms large schools (Ref. 9987). Usually fast swimming with short stops to feed (Ref. 48636). Sold fresh in markets. Utilized for fish meal. Valued also for its roe (Ref. 9987).

Maximum size is 22 cm SL, common length 18 cm TL
Distribution: Indo-West Pacific

Cutlass fish/ Largehead hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus)

Generally over muddy bottoms of shallow coastal waters (Ref. 9351). Often enter estuaries (Ref. 9351). Adults feed mainly on fishes and occasionally on squids and crustaceans (Ref. 6181).

Maximum size is 234 cm TL, common length 100 cm TL

Distribution: Circumtropical and temperate waters
